“It is work created by society but stigmatized by society,” said Rogelberg, who has studied the effects of the job on those who do it. “Society has created a need for euthanasia because they don’t adopt pets or spay and neuter them.” - Dr. Steven Rogelberg, a psychology professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on 'A tormenting paradox" This is the reality - read A tormenting paradox (alt link). If you have friends or family who have pets and won’t sterilise them, show this to them. (I got the link off this post). And tell them it’s not just unwanted pet animals who will have to die just because no one wants them - there are health issues for their unsterilised pets too, and (heaven forbid) the babies born, especially if they’re inbred, so STERILISE, dammit!

The PawPledge folks are holding an adoption drive this weekend - 6/7 Oct, 12pm to 7.30pm. Details here.
This newborn kitten was dumped last Wednesday, 26 Sep at a rubbish dump in Jurong West Ave 1. The witness confronted the the dumper, an encik, who said as Hari Raya was coming, he was clearing out his ‘unwanted’ items, including this tiny kitten. The kitten was an offspring of his own unsterilised female cat. (read full post here) This little bundle of furry helplessness is now called the Songkok kitten because the box it was contained in had the words ‘Songkok Melayu Al-Barakah’. See more of its pictures here. Why do irresponsible pet owners think it totally acceptable to dump pets when spring-cleaning? Hari Raya is such a meaningful festival, it is one of the most important events in the religious context of the Muslim way of life, being a milestone marker for the end of Ramadan. And yet, in the name of celebrating Hari Raya, people throw away unwanted pets like this little kitten and the birdie cage babies without care. It does not matter whether the dumped pet cats are mature and supposingly able to fend for themselves (like this pair), or simply older kittens (like the Meowsons), or are totally defenceless like this little one. Such acts make a mockery of the spirit of this sacred day. People who dump pets as part of their process of getting ready for Hari Raya defile the sanctity of this holy day. I can only hope such people realise the crime they're committing and do not dump pets, whether full-grown or newborns from their unsterilised pets again for the next Hari Raya.

In this discarded bird cage with the very ethnic cover, a litter of very sick kittens laid dying This is one of them This is another one Altogether there were 5. Who could be so cruel? When I saw them, I wish whoever dumped them to experience exactly what the kittens are suffering. (more details here)
This pair of 3 month old sisters could as well be called the otah sisters. Found trying to eat otah leave wrappings, they’ve been whisked off to safety to await their permenanet home. Vaccinated and litter-box trained. Preferably adopted together. To see more of them, click here.
Won't you beam us home?
Fresh off the streets yesterday, good-looking brothers Gunnar and Mattie Meowson are searching for a real home. Imagine being 4 months old and dumped unceremoniously onto the streets. (Full story here)
They are none the worse for wear, and are healthy and affectionate. Would you give the warming loving home that they deserve? Email sephycat at gmail dot com
Gunnar: Ginger tabby with fashion sense. What a combination he has - completely togged out in tabby tuxedo, immaculate with gloves and shoes. Mattie: Pure white kitten. He's focused on keeping one theme and theme only-white is the new cool. For the polar bears!
(Source: Appeal: Chrissy suffers from liver failure and has bronchitis) Chrissy was found on X’mas day last year, and diagnosed with liver-failure. She developed fever in May, and then earlier this month went twice to the vet for fever again. At the second visit, she was diagnosed with bronchitis. So on top of her liver problem, she needs medical attention for bronchitis too. Currently, Chrissy’s monthly expenses include boarding fees and any medication the vet has prescribed for her, both for her liver problem and her current bout of bronchitis. Her medical expenses - for liver-function and so on, and any vet visits are separate. Can you help defray her expenses? Will you give Cassie a home?
Cassie is a very friendly and affectionate 1.5 year-old female cat. She loves to sit on laps. A classic bland and white bi-colour cat, she has a normal tail... which wags, and is always wagging as she purrs - she’s a cat with a dog’s tail! To read her adoption profile and see her tail-wagging, click here. Cassie was abandoned one year ago and would have been put down at the AVA if she hadn't been saved. To read about how it began for her, click here.
